Zane’s Painting Passion

is a small business that gives the individual the chance to express themselves in an ever-forgiving art form wet-on-wet oil painting from start to finish. It takes about three hours to complete a masterpiece.

It is every artist’s dream to have a studio where creative dreams can come to life. When Zane’s Painting Passion was established, the “passion” was to have an art studio where we could practice the craft of painting.

We stumbled on a small place that was built here, riverside, in 1903 on North Main in Port Byron, IL. It has a breathtaking view of the Mississippi River which is great for inspiration. It is big enough for a small classroom and a little space to sell frames and art supplies. The studio was officially opened in October 2011.

A lot of paint is used.

  • Estimated time to complete: 6 hours.

Wildlife is taught in two stages - the Acrylic Stage and the Oil Stage.

    1. Acrylic Stage - after you have transferred your pattern to the canvas, you paint the pattern with black, white, and background acrylic paint and let it dry.

    2. Oil Stage - after the acrylic paint is dry, you use Oil to give the painting color and luster.

We also give classes on the road. The sponsor supplies the classroom, and we furnish the equipment for a flat rate.

We do demonstrations for interested businesses/organizations. They sponsor the event and we come show you how easy it is to paint at no cost.

  • Estimated time to complete: 2-3 hours.

Seascapes have concave and convex brush strokes for the waves, and it is even harder if the student has never seen a wave or the sea personally.

  • Estimated time to complete: 2-3 hours.

I know everyone loves flowers, and I am one of those people. This is the hardest class to teach and to take, so we will spend plenty of time discussing the process. It requires a light touch, small thin layers of paint, and more angles and brush strokes to master. We use patterns sometimes to cut down on the time needed to paint the project.
